(NETHERLANDS) I was educated as a photographer in the 1990s. Over time, my practice shifted from relatively conventional documentary photography to research in and through artistic practice. In my research I activate archives with photographs produced on - and deal with imaginations of - the African continent. In 2018 I defended a doctoral thesis on photographs in Uganda. Currently my main research project investigates the possibilities of photographs produced by the Dutch traveller Paul Julien during journeys to 'Equatorial Africa' between 1932 and 1962.
