This is an exercise in editorial experimentation that plays with the reader / creator, who can make their own book from photographs, texts and drawings from Medellín Colombia. The reading / editing of the book is an analogy of the way of inhabiting the city where space / time must be fragmented to appropriate it. Therefore, an open and plural idea of the city / book is created and its appropriation occurs both individually and at the intersection with others. Spectators / citizens can assemble or disassemble 24 photos, 24 drawings and 24 writings, as they wish. For this reason, this project plays with the ambiguity between the work and the catalog, the document and the experiment, the narrative and the chaos. Faced with the question, how to read a city, I could not answer more than fragmenting my senses. The city, as a city and as an experience, is immeasurable. It is an amalgam of paths that are woven, randomly, in the same structure that is crossed by the bodies that we cross it to be able to know it. We go through it immersed in daily actions such as going to work or visiting a park; acts that allow to move in it and appropriate a part of that that cannot be covered. For this reason, to inhabit the city, it must be fragmented, broken, divided, select which street and time to live in it, build a personal city, segmented by one's own steps, by the senses. Decide what to feel, what to feel, what to look at, smell or breathe. But we do not travel it alone. The city, although it is a container of individualities, begins to build its character in the diversification and network of these fragments. Citizen pedestrians constantly cross and exchange among themselves supported by common places and symbols: buildings, squares, bus routes, food, etc., until they create a new body in constant movement. The senses, normally referenced separately, are various channels of our body and understanding to capture and recreate what we perceive. The body, like the city, locates by fragments the totality of a web of sensations to give us some information about our environment; and thus, the smell tells us of something we see or the skin reminds us of something we hear. The senses, placed in the city, then become a reproduction of the body and its sensorial breaks through which a space-time is traversed and inhabited, which sometimes, due to its immense scope, becomes chaotic. After 2 years of searching for those fragments of senses and chaos, the final result of this project represents that experience of going through Medellín in a sensitive and chaotic way.caótica.
