In "3/5" the power of shoes and of the person who wears them is manifested, more than the fetishism that usually characterises them, it is the person who travels the world with them that gives character and power to these objects, converting them into possible monuments to the creative force of these two key women in the Mexican art and culture scene.

The shoes give shape to a narrative that takes on different nuances, depending on the context in which they are viewed. From the fascinating story of Margo Glantz and Graciela Iturbide, who have travelled the world with these shoes, to the author's commentary on the photographic medium.

In the images of "3/5", Kooiker refers to the history of photography on two different levels: on the one hand to the style of photography of the 1920s, and on the other hand to the studio photography of shoe advertising in the 1950s.

He is one of the most renowned photographers in the Netherlands. He studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague and at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Since 1995 he has been a teacher at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.

In 1996 he won the Prix de Rome and in 2009 he was awarded the A. Roland Holst Prize. Paul Kooiker's work has been exhibited widely including group exhibitions at the Maison Européene de la photographie, Paris; Fotohof, Salzburg; Kumho Art Museum, Seoul; Arsenale Novissimo, Venice, Zabludowics Collection, London.

Between 2007 and 2009 he published fourteen issues of Archivo, a bimonthly magazine edited by himself and gallerist Willem van Zoetendaal.
