Develar y Detonar is an exhibition that proposes a review of the current photographic production in Mexico through an edition that links the different works, where authors from different generations and places in the country converge and intersect to draw a complex, contradictory and disturbing map of the Mexico in which we live.
A map that seeks to raise questions, to open up photography to a reflection and dialogue that allows for the construction of new notions that enrich the medium. To reveal new ways of looking at and producing images. To trigger a reflection on the way we conceive the contemporary photographic image.
Mexico is a country that has undergone profound social, political and ideological transformations; a changing nation that intersects with a medium that adapts and transforms vertiginously: photography. In recent years, photographic production and circuits in Mexico have grown exponentially.
In this sense, Develar y Detonar seeks to open up this complex and fertile panorama for reflection, which leads to new and risky ways of constructing photographic discourse.
This group exhibition reviews current photographic production on the basis of a curatorial approach in which the contrast, clash and encounter of images and discourses opens up the possibility of a new look at Mexican photography. The authors presented here, from different generations and geographical origins, come together to draw a complex, contradictory and disturbing map of contemporary Mexico, which seeks to raise some questions and open up photography to reflection and dialogue. On the one hand, to "unveil" new ways of looking at and producing images, and on the other, to "detonate" a reflection on the contemporary photographic image.
From this interweaving of gazes, the exhibition establishes points of contact between the work of very different authors and identifies specific times or situations that show artistic concerns and creative strategies.
It also traces an axis in current Mexican photography at a time when the frontier between genres or photographic practices is blurring; it generates mixtures in political positions, conceptions, actions, particular and universal interests; and it questions identity, the body, the notion of community and the very nature of the photographic medium.
