COLLECTION MANAGEMENT

PRODUCTION PROGRAMMES

Hydra has structured a training programme for the management of collections, from their arrangement and preservation to their research and dissemination. Participants will learn about the processes involved in the management, study and dissemination of both public and private photographic collections, and will be able to use various tools for physical monitoring and intellectual recording in archives.

The work of classifying a collection has significant consequences not only for its accessibility but also for its preservation. For this reason, the The use of information management tools is integrated into our training programme. We also believe it is essential to provide tools for the preservation of digital objects to collectors, photographers and anyone who handles large amounts of information generated by cameras or scanners.
The application of best practices in institutional photographic archives, private collections or personal archives is the best way to ensure the protection of this artistic and historical heritage. This diploma course aims to provide working tools for authors, specialists, researchers and archive staff. Through the work developed in the different sessions, participants will recognise: mechanisms of preservation and handling of collections, visual analysis and documentary sources, inventories, cataloguing, management of database systems, copyright, curatorial, exhibition and editorial projects. Photographers will also encounter archival management strategies when incorporating them into their work processes.

COLLECTION MONITORING CLINICS

The aim of this clinic is to provide participants with practical solutions for the preservation of and access to photographic materials. To this end, we will work on the basis of monitoring of the funds and collections that participate in the clinic from two axes: physical monitoring and intellectual registration.

In the case of physical monitoring, participants are guided in the use and application of concrete tools for the care of photographic objects.

Based on the intellectual monitoring of the funds and collections participating in the clinic, participants will be guided in the use of the Mexican Standard for Cataloguing Photographic Documents NMX-R-069-SCFI-2016, and will be introduced to various formats and tools for managing information on photographic collections.

COURSES ON DIGITISATION OF DOCUMENTS AND DIGITAL PRESERVATION BASICS

The course on digitisation of documents and fundamentals of digital preservation has been structured so that the participant has the basic tools to make decisions in the processes of digitisation of documents that organisations face daily, within the life cycle of the information and must ensure the accessibility of the information to facilitate its consultation and guarantee its existence once it becomes historical information. The course is aimed at collectors, photographers and technical operational staff involved in document management.
