ABOUT THIS BOOK

For 500 years, in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, every September 24, the day of Nuestra Señora de La Merced, a pilgrimage is made and each family builds its own "Panzudo" which represents the sins: the more a person has to atone, the bigger and uglier his attire will be.

Between texts and images, this photobook takes us through the tunnels of the domestic space to explore its psychological density and the complexity of childhood, fusing it with pre-Hispanic traditions and apocalyptic visions of the Catholic religion. This series takes a contemporary look at the cultural syncretism that marks Mexico's history. Los Panzudos continue to dance every year in the streets of San Cristóbal de las Casas, now with Halloween masks and Chinese fabrics, creating new characters from the imaginary of present-day Mexico.

En mi mente nunca hay silencio was printed in an out-of-print special edition printed in inkjet and laser and bound by hand and has now been offset printed in 1000 copies. The book has had an extraordinary reception in Mexico and abroad.
