Zurumbático is an endless journey to the birthplace of the literary work of the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez: One Hundred Years of Solitude. A story full of that extraordinary essence, contained in thousands of Latin American villages, roots of a gigantic empirical, passionate, forgotten, fickle, violent, improvised and above all, happy hemisphere.
Aracataca is the writer's homeland, which was the inspiration for his unique Macondo. This place and its surroundings, close to the Colombian Caribbean area, is my starting point.
The leitmotif was the book, and the result, an accumulation of images that revealed themselves to be unpublished and spontaneous; a process of intimate, poetic, magical, dreamy, sometimes painful, self-exploration, full of symbolism and enigmatic stories, connected with this way of being a continent and that, for me, meant a rebirth as an individual who was nourished by that bleeding Latin American spinal cord.
Zurumbático is a tunnel of feelings, sensations, effects and special events, which I enter and leave whenever I wish. Immersed in this dimension, I understood and reconfirmed that the unusual, the everyday, the comical, even the tragic, cannot be explained, cannot be asked or sought. It is that, and that's it.
