GUANAJUATO FURNACE
Hermegildo Bustos and Multi-purpose Halls
This exhibition and photobook where the narrative is constructed in the union of images, videos and texts, is presented for the third time in Mexico, this time in the halls of the University of Guanajuato.
The desire to have a child, a pregnancy. To inhabit a foreign, perfect body. Giving birth, breasts full of milk, the delirium of the first months. A timeless, formless space, day and night follow one another without division. The pleasure of that little body glued to mine, to my breast, breastfeeding every three hours, dozing, delirium, exhaustion. A body that feeds on me. So many intense, contradictory, surprising emotions.
And at some point, a slip into another scene, an imperceptible, radical movement. Insomnia, circular thoughts. Suddenly I find myself in a place that terrifies me. A slow and tortuous transit through a dark tunnel. My body urges me to enter, to listen. The memories that crowd my body. I stand still, listening to the voice speaking in my head. Alert. I withdraw inward, self-absorbed, suspended between two times. I'm afraid to move, any movement can provoke a collapse, can let out unsuspected, terrifying monsters. My fear as a child.
The fear of what is inside. The games, the affection, the contact, the photos bring me back to the present for a while. Intense, pleasurable sensations that dominate everything. And at the same time, it is my children who summon me back to that other scene. The ones that remain are anchored to my grandmother's photos. Kinderwunsch, children and desire. German, the language of my childhood. The desire to have children. Recapturing the desire of the little girl in the photos. The intensity of affection, passion, depression, desire as a journey inwards and outwards at the same time. A vital process.
