HYDRA + FOTOGRAFÍA
Platform to generate projects related to the medium of photography, based on reflection, dialogue and collaboration between people, associations, institutions and publishers.
Hydra is a project founded in 2012 by Ana Casas Broda, Gabriela González Reyes and Gerardo Montiel Klint, joined in 2020 by Lourdes Báez Meza.
HYDRA + FOTOGRAFÍA is an independent space based on reflection and production to build new forms of creation in the field of photography.
HYDRA builds a network of activities that intertwine, seeking to encourage critical reflection on the photographic medium, and generate creative processes where we accompany the author from the conception, production, presentation and dissemination of his or her work. In this way, we concentrate on working in cycles that seek to support authors from the process of creation, production to circulation in different professional circuits such as museums, galleries, publications, fairs, among others.
In this context, education is an essential part of our work process, with the aim of opening new paths of exploration and creation through collaboration and horizontal dialogue between creators, curators, researchers, publishers, collectors and the public interested in photography.
REGENERATE 2020
In 2020 we are renewing our platform in this unprecedented global experience, which both confines us physically and brings us together through digital media.
HYDRA opens new online programmes based on listening and dialogue between a wide spectrum of creators from different parts of the world, allowing us to open up questions and the possibility of reconstructing art scenarios. We thus begin a path of learning, questioning and reflection that will take us along untrodden paths and thus, fortunately, to places that are fortunately still unknown, starting from the practice itself.
Dialogue with different places, cultures and disciplines in this new temporality of the virtual world opens up the possibility of meeting in real time with artists, curators, collectives, publishers, writers from all over the world. The proximity of the screen makes possible a personal dialogue with people from cultures that were previously completely remote. And at the same time, it allows us to peer into the complexity of the context of each universe that constructs the moment and the perspective of each person and their work.
We are faced with the urgent need to ask ourselves from where and for whom do we produce our work, where does the material that nourishes it come from and what are the new spaces we need to rethink the purpose of creation, its place in society, and above all, what are the spaces of validation that we choose as its goal? What do we aspire to with our work?

GALLERY
In our gallery we periodically present exhibitions of different authors, mostly related to our long-term projects of creating and/or publishing photobooks.
In addition, the exhibitions offer works for sale to the public. One of HYDRA's core activities is the promotion of collecting.
Through the MICROCOLECCIONISMO project we offer those interested the possibility of acquiring original and certified works of art at accessible prices. This action, in addition to encouraging the acquisition and circulation of photography, allows us to promote the work of established and emerging authors from rural, urban and indigenous communities to new audiences.
We also organise auctions and special events with collectors and the interested public.
