Exilios is a photobook inspired by the story of three women who, in the middle of their lives and after suffering years of violence, decided to leave their partners and even the whole world.
The book is composed of two interspersed books, creating a narrative that visually builds the work by interweaving the stories of three very different places in Mexico. The landscape and the desing of the pages create a dramatic and poetic scenario of the lifes of these three women who isolated them selves from the world for different reasons, and who are the metaphor to address central issues of identity, gender and the life of women in Mexico.
"Adela barricaded herself in her room. From there she devoted herself on letting her life disappea. Berta and Mercedes, on the other hand, left their village to settle in the middle of nature. Accompanied by their children and without any kind of service, they forged a life and a territory of their own, which today, almost at the age of 80 and almost alone, refuse to leave. Each of these women sought in exile the freedom that, due to their gender, was denied to them. "

Edén Bernal

Edén Bernal received the honorable mention of the 9th Festival de la Memoria for the documentary "Mover un Río" (2015). With the same documentary he participated in several festivals, among which stand out: the 9th Muestra de Cine+Video Indígena (Chile), the 6th Salón Internacional de la Luz (Colombia), the 18th Guanajuato International Film Festival (Mexico). In addition, he received the fellowship from the Co-investment Program of FONCA, Mexico (2014). In 2013 he participated in the DocsDF challenge with the short film "El Ombligo". In 2009 he received a scholarship for the Second Bicultural Meeting of Emerging Filmmakers for the production of the short documentary “Retrato en Ausencia”, with which he participated in various international festivals. That same year he developed and implemented as a team the Artistic Conditioning Program for People with HIV, a project awarded by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation, in which he taught a cinematography workshop that generated six short films as a result. In 2012, he founded Cineclub Callejero, a nomadic project focused on temporarily transforming public spaces into movie theaters.
