Un libro nacido en el silencio del confinamiento, L'Ego Meurtri. Hommage à Gilbert Garcin es un viaje visual a través del laberinto de la existencia humana. La artista visual y fotógrafa mexicana Ileana Montaño construye, a lo largo de sus páginas, un retrato íntimo y universal de lo que significa habitar el mundo en sus extremos: la oscuridad y la luz, la herida y la esperanza, el quiebre y la renovación.

Inspirada en el ingenio poético y la sensibilidad del fotógrafo francés Gilbert Garcin, Montaño adopta su lenguaje visual, el fotomontaje, la pequeña figura solitaria en un mundo desconcertante, el absurdo elevado a filosofía, y lo transforma en algo profundamente propio. El resultado es una obra que no imita sino que dialoga: una conversación entre dos miradas, dos épocas y dos formas de entender la fragilidad humana.

El libro está estructurado en dos partes. La primera, L'Ego Meurtri, recorre los territorios emocionales de 2020: la tristeza, el miedo, la desconexión y la desesperación que marcaron ese año. La segunda, Atteindre Le Ciel, traza el giro hacia 2021: la resiliencia, el optimismo y el lento regreso a la luz. Encuadernado en tête-bêche, las dos partes comparten un solo lomo y se funden en un bucle perpetuo: al llegar a la última página de una, el lector encuentra, sin transición, la portada de la otra. La oscuridad y la luz no se suceden. Se turnan, sin fin, cada una llevando la semilla de la siguiente.

Este no es un libro para verse. Es un libro para sentirse. Cada imagen es una pregunta. Cada escena, una emoción suspendida. Entre el absurdo y la ternura, L'Ego Meurtri convierte el fotomontaje en un lenguaje del alma, una mirada honesta a lo que nos rompe, a lo que nos sostiene y a lo que, a pesar de todo, nos hace humanos. 

Ileana, originaria de la Ciudad de México, es profesional en comunicación gráfica y publicidad. Realizó sus estudios en San Diego, California, y a su regreso a la Ciudad de México inició su carrera profesional como redactora creativa, diseñadora gráfica y directora creativa en diversas agencias de publicidad. La pintura y la fotografía, que siempre fueron una fuerte inclinación artística en ella, pronto se convirtieron en su verdadero llamado.

Ileana emprendió un camino de exploración, profundizando en técnicas de pintura y fusionando hábilmente sus capacidades en fotografía y gráfica computacional para desarrollar una expresión visual única. Hoy es artista visual y fotógrafa independiente.

Su trabajo artístico ha sido reconocido internacionalmente, recibiendo premios de organizaciones de prestigio como Mobile Photo Awards, Mobile Camera Club, Gala Awards (Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers), Tokyo International Foto Awards, MIRA Mobile Prize, Mobiography Awards, Mobgraphia Cultura Visual, Prix de la Photographie Paris, Art Icon y Paris International Street Photography Awards. Su obra ha sido presentada en importantes espacios artísticos de Europa, entre ellos Francia, Inglaterra, Italia, Portugal, España y Hungría; en Asia, con exposiciones en Japón, Corea del Sur y Turquía; y en América, abarcando Estados Unidos, Brasil y Argentina. En 2017, Ileana presentó su primera exposición individual, Fragments of Light, en la Ciudad de México, marcando un hito significativo en su trayectoria artística.

También ha sido destacada y ha colaborado con blogs influyentes dedicados al arte y la fotografía móvil. En 2022, Ileana publicó su primer libro, titulado L'ego meurtri. Hommage à Gilbert Garcin. A través de su arte, Ileana busca evocar sensaciones profundas. Sus creaciones son una fusión de imágenes y narrativas entretejidas, impregnadas de sus propias emociones y sentimientos. A book born in the silence of confinement, L'Ego Meurtri. Hommage à Gilbert Garcin is a visual journey through the labyrinth of human existence. Mexican visual artist and photographer Ileana Montaño constructs, across its pages, an intimate and universal portrait of what it means to inhabit the world at its extremes: darkness and light, wound and hope, rupture and renewal.

Inspired by the poetic wit and sensibility of French photographer Gilbert Garcin, Montaño adopts his visual language — photomontage, the small solitary figure in a bewildering world, absurdity elevated to philosophy — and transforms it into something deeply her own. The result is a work that does not imitate but converses: a dialogue between two gazes, two eras, and two ways of understanding human fragility. The book is structured in two parts. The first, L'Ego Meurtri, moves through the emotional territories of 2020: the sadness, fear, disconnection, and despair that defined that year. The second, Atteindre Le Ciel, traces the turn toward 2021: resilience, optimism, and the slow return to light. Bound tête-bêche, the two parts share a single spine and merge into a perpetual loop: upon reaching the last page of one, the reader finds, without transition, the cover of the other. Darkness and light do not succeed each other. They take turns, endlessly, each carrying the seed of the next. This is not a book to be seen. It is a book to be felt. Each image is a question. Each scene, a suspended emotion. Between absurdity and tenderness, L'Ego Meurtri turns photomontage into a language of the soul, an honest gaze at what breaks us, what holds us together, and what, despite everything, makes us human.

Ileana, originally from Mexico City, is a professional in graphic communication and advertising. She completed her studies in San Diego, California, and upon returning to Mexico City, she began her professional career as a copywriter, graphic designer, and creative director at various advertising agencies. Painting and photography, which had always been a strong artistic inclination in her, soon became her true calling. Ileana embarked on a path of exploration, delving into painting techniques and skillfully merging her abilities in photography and computer graphics to develop a unique visual expression. Today, she is an independent visual artist and photographer. 

Her artistic work has been internationally recognized, receiving awards from prestigious organizations such as the Mobile Photo Awards, Mobile Camera Club,Gala Awards (Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers), Tokyo International Foto Awards, MIRA Mobile Prize, Mobiography Awards, Mobgraphia Cultura Visual, and Prix de la Photographie Paris, Art Icon and Paris International Street Photography Awards. Her work has been presented in important artistic venues across Europe, including France, England, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Hungary; in Asia, with exhibitions in Japan, South Korea, and Turkey; and in the Americas, spanning the United States, Brazil, and Argentina. In 2017, Ileana presented her first solo exhibition, Fragments of Light, in
Mexico City, marking a significant milestone in her artistic journey. She has also been featured in and collaborated with influential blogs focused on art and mobile photography. In 2022, Ileana published her first book, titled L'ego meurtri. Hommage à Gilbert Garcin.

Through her art, Ileana strives to evoke profound sensations. Her creations are a fusion of interwoven images and narratives, imbued with her own emotions and feelings. In her creative process, she transmutes ordinary experiences into unique visions, creating works that establish connections and touch the depths of our shared humanity.
