IMAGE TECHNOLOGIES
LAURO LÓPEZ SÁNCHEZ | MEXICO

The aim of this course is to trace an archaeology of technological media and their close ideological relationship in the development of reproduction media such as cinema, the camera and audiovisual media since their beginnings. On the one hand, we will analyze concrete examples of how the human gaze has been gradually displaced and supplanted by a complex system of social control.

We now have a hybrid technological system deployed at all levels of life, where reality is associated, organised and determined. This leads to a whole ontological problematic, as it rethinks the place of the production of the gaze and the place of the spectator.

INVENTIONS OF THE BODY
REBECA GONZÁLEZ
AND MAURICIO ORTIZ | MEXICO

Beyond its biological imperatives and the contingencies inherent to its being in the world, the body demands to be invented on a daily basis: in image. If each era promotes an ideal body and insists on a catalogue of bodily anathemas, it is in the face of them that each person invents the image of their body, that singular and dynamic image with which they recognise themselves and present themselves to others. Art concentrates the tension between the acceptance of the ideal and its negation, between the approval of the anathemas and their rejection, between submission and rebellion against the stereotype.

Aimed at artists, photographers and the general public interested in the production of photobooks.

The archive is a bastion of memory and its power is protected in fortresses where documents are accumulated in an irregular way. It is the guardians of these places who hold the authority to preserve access to information. Managing that access means controlling the key to knowledge and the story. That is why the archive becomes a recurrent place for contemporary artistic creation.
